Seven green biodegradable plastics

Polylactic acid (PLA) is a novel biodegradable material made from starch derived from renewable plant resources such as corn.With good biodegradability, it can be completely degraded by microorganisms in nature after use, and eventually generate carbon dioxide and water without polluting the environment, which is very beneficial to environmental protection and is recognized as an environmentally friendly material.It is known that the amount of PLA accounts for 45.1% of biodegradable plastics, which is a well-deserved main force.

The degradation of PLA can be divided into two stages: 1) pure chemical hydrolysis into lactic acid monomer;2) lactic acid monomer is reduced to carbon dioxide and water under the action of microorganisms.The food cup made of polylactic acid can be completely degraded in only 60 days, truly achieving ecological and economic effects.

PLA is mainly used in food packaging and 3D printing which are of great concern.

Dimer, poly3-hydroxyalkanate, PHA

PHA is a kind of aliphatic copolymer polyester with different structure, which is synthesized by microbial fermentation with various carbon sources.The most common ones are poly3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB), polyhydroxyvalerate (PHV) and copolymer of PHB and PHV (PHBV).

Main USES: disposable tableware, non-woven cloth, packaging materials, agricultural mulch, toys, plastic, fiber and other degradable products.

PCL for the polymerized groups

Poly (epsilon - caprolactone (PCLS) by epsilon - caprolactone via ring opening polymerization of low melting point of polymer, its melting point 62 ℃.Studies on the degradation of PCL have been carried out since 1976. In both anaerobic and aerobic environments, PCL can be completely decomposed by microorganisms.

Compared with PLA, PCL has better hydrophobicity but slower degradation rate.At the same time, the synthesis process is simple and the cost is low.PCL has excellent processing performance and can be used to make films and other products with ordinary plastic processing equipment.

Iv. Polyester --PBS/PBSA

PBS takes aliphatic succinic acid and butanediol as the main production raw materials, which can not only meet the demand through petrochemical products, but also through starch, cellulose, glucose and other natural renewable crop products, through biological fermentation production, so as to realize the green cycle production from nature and return to nature.Moreover, the raw materials produced by biological fermentation process can also significantly reduce the raw material cost, thus further reducing the cost of PBS.

Compared with similar products, polyester biodegradable plastics have the following advantages:

1) good heat resistance.This prompted it to achieve promotion in the field of catering;

2) low processing conditions;

3) easy to preserve and resistant to hydrolysis.

Polybutanediol succinate (PBS) is widely used in packaging, tableware, cosmetics bottles and medicine bottles, disposable medical supplies, agricultural film, pesticide and fertilizer sustained-release materials, biomedical polymer materials and other fields.

V. aliphatic aromatic copolyesters

The aliphatic aromatic random copolyester (Ecoflex) made by BASF is composed of adipic acid, terephthalic acid and 1, 4-butanediol.The current production capacity is 140,000 tons/year.Biodegradable plastics based on polyester and starch were also developed.

Vi. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)

Water-soluble PVA film is a new type of plastic product which is emerging in the world.It makes use of PVA film forming, water and biological degradation characteristics, can be completely degraded to CO2 and H2O, is a veritable green high-tech environmental protection packaging materials.

In Europe, America and Japan, water-soluble PVA film has been widely used in packaging of various products.In China, the development of water-soluble PVA film is still in the initial stage, and the industrial research and development has really started in the past five years. It is mainly used in embroidery and water transfer printing (color printing of glass, ceramics, electrical shell, etc.). The annual usage of PVA in this field is about 10000t.

Carbon dioxide copolymer

A new type of synthetic material under study, in which carbon dioxide is used as monomer material, is activated to a higher degree under the action of bimetallic coordination PBM type catalyst, and copolymerizes with epoxide to produce aliphatic polycarbonate (PPC). After post-treatment, carbon dioxide resin material is obtained.

Abroad, the earliest research on carbon dioxide copolymer mainly for Japan and the United States, but has not industrialized production.Using the technology of changchun institute of applied chemistry, Inner Mongolia mengxi group co., ltd. has built an annual output of 3,000 tons of carbon dioxide/epoxy compound copolymer resin device, the products are mainly used in packaging and medical materials.

In addition, chitin, polyamide, poly (aspartic acid), polysaccharide, cellulose and so on are under development.
