Best LED Headlights Buying Guide to Consider When Buying LED Headlights

LED Bulb color

The first thing to know about the bulb color is that the measurement used to describe the brightness is given on the Kelvin scale. The lower the number, the 'warmer' the color will look. The following is a brief guideline on this scale to help you cut through the jargon and work out what you are buying.

Generally, anything between 2,700 ang 3,500 Kelvin is not used in headlights as this is not bright enough to illuminate the road in front, even though this color is often more pleasing on the naked eye. Next, you have bright colors between 3,500 and 5,000 Kelvin which are found in some headlight models. They give you a further and wider view to safely drive at night. Finally, we have the LED bulbs above 5,000 Kelvin, which is the category that most of the headlights that we have discussed above fit into. Named cool or daylight white, they allow you to see the furthest and have a wide view, and the view mimics the one you get during daytime hours. On the downside, they may cause some strain to your eyes if used for extended periods, but this is generally not an issue for most drivers.

Lumens of LED Lights

The next scale which is worth discussing in more detail is the number of lumens that the headlights emit. Smaller intensity units range between 6,000 and 6,400 lumens, but they still provide a good level of light for over 500m in a straight line, making them suitable for the majority of drivers. One level up, we have the headlights of around 8,000 lumens, which are capable of illuminating everything between 600-700m. Even though they are ‘medium’ intensity units, they are still more powerful than all Halogen bulbs. Lastly, we have the high-intensity units of 10,000 lumens which can illuminate the street as if it were daylight, and they can even be used in combination with a warm colored film. However, you need to be careful about dazzling oncoming traffic while using them, which is why it is so important that they are properly aligned to face downwards rather than straight ahead.
